ABOUT Debaines

THE HOTELIERS

The founding hoteliers, Fernando Gruenberg Stern and Christian Fiederer, have their roots in Chile and Germany. Both their families have been linked to hospitality and gastronomy for generations.

A long history of service in hotels and destinations on four continents has formed their careers, touching famous hotels and brands like Hilton, Shangri-La, Radisson and Le Méridien in Europe, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.

Their combined professional experience and many friends in the industry have helped in the creation of this hotel. They share an admiration for historic Santiago and its vibrant centre, and are also very committed to its renaissance.

For the passionate hosts, excellence in service and urban elegance characterise their ambitions for the Debaines Hotel Santiago.

A HOMAGE

The Debaines Hotel Santiago strives to honor the memorable contribution Claude François Brunet-Debaines bestowed on the country and capital of Chile.

The Hotel is surrounded by historic monuments and numerous histories of the old and new Santiago de Chile: The Teatro Municipal was the first major design by Brunet-Debaines, the architect of a great part of the historic Santiago. Its columned frontis marks the ensemble of the Plaza Mekis that leads up to the hotel entrance.

From the top floors of the hotel one overlooks the historic city centre, defined by the masterfully designed landmarks that were created, directed and inspired by Brunet-Debaines: The Palacio del Arzobispo on Plaza de Armas, the old Congreso Nacional, the now Galeria Matte, Capilla de la Vera Cruz of Lastarria and the magnificent Paseo Bulnes leading up to the Palacio de la Moneda.

THE ARTS

The National Opera House, the number one stage of the country, is our neighbor. World-class theatre, opera, concerts and events that attract an enthusiastic audience.

Hundreds of Chile’s best artists of all disciplines are linked to the Teatro Municipal. We strive to give them a second stage - with exhibitions, artwork displays, installations, and performances. And they are always welcome for an after-show drink at the bar.

The hotel is steps from famous cultural institutions like the Museo Bellas Artes, Museo Arte Contemporaneo, Biblioteca and Archivo Nacional, the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino, the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad de Chile, founded by Brunet-Debaines - and - Santiago’s take on the Centre Pompidou: The Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral, the GAM.
